New Tests Show No E. Coli in Water Supply

OAKDALE, New York (1010 WINS) -- The E. Coli bacteria originally found in previous water samples on Fire Island appears to have grown in the laboratory and not in the actual water supply.
New samples have been taken and turned up negative for E. Coli.
The boil water alert still remains in effect. Fire Island residents and visitors are asked to boil their water for at least one minute, or to use bottled water. In addition, caution should be used when bathing infants or the elderly to avoid ingestion.
The bacteria in the water can cause sickness, especially in people with a weakened immune system.
The alert is expected to be lifted by tomorrow afternoon. |
